What happens if you don't.

About half of Australians have a will. One in ten has written down what should happen to their online accounts. Everyone else leaves the decisions to a formula, a trustee and a court.

Your estate

The law's formula decides who gets what, and it ignores your wishes and your situation. In a blended family, children from another relationship can take part of what your partner would have had. Your family usually has to apply to the court before they can deal with any of it.

Your children

No will means no guardian named. If neither parent can care for them, a court chooses who does, with no record of who you would have picked.

Your super and crypto

Without a binding nomination, your super fund's trustee decides who gets your super. Crypto nobody knows about, or keys nobody can find, can't be recovered by anyone.

Start my will

About 15 minutes settles all three. Nothing to pay until you've finished. Sources in the FAQ.

Three steps. The third is what makes us different.

  1. 1

    Tonight, about 15 minutes

    Answer plain-English questions

Who you love, what you own and who's in charge. No jargon. It saves as you go, and you pay nothing until you've finished.

  2. 2

    Within 2 business days

A person checks it, you sign it

A real person reads every will before it's sent and flags anything that doesn't add up. Yours arrives by email with step-by-step instructions: print it, sign it in front of two adult witnesses, done.

  3. 3

For as long as you like

We keep it safe and current

Your signed will and your digital legacy plan live in your vault. When life changes, tell us what's different and we prepare the new version for you to sign. Unlimited, with the Willies Plan at A$5 a month.

Most wills are out of date before anyone reads them.

They get signed, filed in a drawer and forgotten. Then life happens: a baby, a new partner, a house, a wallet nobody knows about. An old will can send things to the wrong people, and one nobody can find can't help at all.

With the Willies Plan, your will stays in your vault. Tell us what's changed and we prepare the new version for you to sign. As often as you like, for A$5 a month.

Your will says who gets your crypto. Your recovery plan shows them how.

Wallets, exchanges, passwords and online accounts are where families get stuck. Only 11% of Australians have written down what should happen to their online assets. (La Trobe University, 2026 National Death Literacy and Readiness Report)

  • Encrypted on your device

Your plan is locked on your phone or laptop before it reaches us. We store only the scrambled version and can't read it.

  • No seed phrases, ever

Your plan says where your keys are, not what they are. We block anything that looks like a recovery phrase.

  • Released to the right people

Opening it takes two keys: one we hold, one in the executor kit you print. Neither of us can open it alone, and we release ours only after a death is verified.

Not sure which will you need? Answer the questions and we'll recommend one. You can switch before you pay, and nothing is charged until you've finished.

Competitor prices and terms are from safewill.com, willed.com.au and tag.nsw.gov.au on 20 October 2026, GST included. The lawyer column uses NSW Trustee & Guardian's published fees (standard will A$462, complex from A$583, free on a full age pension); private firms set their own. Safewill's A$359 Customised Will has a 3–5 business day review. Kit price is typical retail.

Questions people ask us

Anything else, email hello@willies.com.au. A person replies.

Is an online will legally valid in Australia?

Yes. What makes a will valid is how it's signed, not who typed it. It must be in writing, and you sign it in front of two adult witnesses who then sign it too. Your will arrives as a PDF with step-by-step signing instructions. Print it, sign it in ink, and it's as valid as one from a law firm.

Do I need witnesses? How do I sign it?

Two adult witnesses, in the room with you, watching you sign. Then they sign. Pick people who don't inherit under the will: a neighbour, a colleague, a friend. You don't need a lawyer or a JP. Sign in ink, not on a screen, and keep the original somewhere your executor can find it. You can upload a photo of the signed copy to your vault so there's a record of it.

How much does a will cost?

A$149 for an Essential Will or A$399 for a Complete Will, paid once. A mirror will for your partner is +A$99 or +A$199. The Willies Plan is A$5 a month, billed from day one and pre-selected at checkout; untick it if you only want the will. You pay nothing until you've answered every question. For comparison: Safewill A$160, Willed A$159, Bare A$99 for simple estates only, NSW Trustee & Guardian A$462.

What is the Willies Plan, and can I cancel it?

Storage for your signed will, unlimited updates and your encrypted digital legacy plan, for A$5 a month. When life changes you tell us what's different, we prepare the new version and you sign it. Cancel any time, no fees. You keep your will and can download it first. Updates stop, and your legacy plan is frozen: still stored and still released to your executors, but you can't edit it unless you restart the plan.

Why not a will kit from the post office?

A kit costs about A$30 and nobody checks what you write in it. The usual problems are small: a gift that doesn't cover everything you own, a witness who's also a beneficiary, a signature in the wrong place. Any of them can make part or all of the will fail, and nobody finds out until you're gone. With Willies a person reads every will before it's sent, and the signed copy is kept where your executor can find it. If you're on a full age pension in NSW, NSW Trustee & Guardian will write your will for free; otherwise their standard will is A$462 with an appointment in person.

What if my situation is complicated?

A blended family, a business, a family trust or SMSF, overseas assets, or children you want protected by a testamentary trust: that's what the Complete Will (A$399) is for. We recommend it from your answers, and you can switch before you pay. After paying you answer extra questions about only the parts that apply to you.

Does my will cover my super?

Usually not directly. Super is paid out by your fund under your nomination, and often doesn't form part of your estate. The questionnaire asks whether you've made a binding nomination, and your will covers any super that is paid to your estate. If you run an SMSF, the Complete Will deals with it.

Can I update it later?

Yes. Updates are part of the Willies Plan: sign in, tell us what's changed, and we prepare the new version for you to sign. There's no limit. If you skipped the plan at checkout, you can add it from your account when you need a change.

What happens if I die without a will?

A formula in your state's law decides who gets what, usually your partner first, then your children, and it takes no account of your wishes or your situation. It can't name a guardian for your kids, leave anything to a friend, a charity or a stepchild, or choose who's in charge. Your family also has to apply to the court for permission to deal with your estate, which is slower and harder than it would be with a will. Sources: Victoria Legal Aid, If someone dies without a Will; Moneysmart, Wills and powers of attorney (super without a binding nomination); La Trobe University, 2026 National Death Literacy and Readiness Report (52% of Australians have a will, 11% have written down what should happen to their online assets).

How quickly do I get my will?

Within 2 business days of paying. A person checks your answers first, then your will is emailed to you and saved in your vault. For a Complete Will, the clock starts once you've answered the extra questions.

How does the digital legacy plan work?

You list your wallets, exchanges and online accounts, where the recovery details are kept, and who should get what. It's encrypted on your device before it reaches us, so we can't read it. Opening it takes two keys: one we hold and one in the executor kit you print. After a death is verified, your nominated executor signs in, enters their key, and the plan opens for them.

Do you ever see my seed phrase or passwords?

Never. Your plan records where your keys are, not the keys themselves. If you type something that looks like a recovery phrase, we block it.

Can my partner do theirs too?

Yes. Add a mirror will for your partner at checkout for A$99 (Essential) or A$199 (Complete). The Willies Plan covers you both.
